Report from the Field

After 22 hours of flight in a 26 hour stretch, Zach Morrice and I made it to Dumaguete, one of the provincial capitals on Negros Island.  It's a bustling place, brightly colored flowers, brightly colored buildings, a beautiful waterfront.  And no traffic signals in the town.   Zach and I never want to drive here, and we are not too sure that walking is a good idea either.

We were greeted by the Rev. Rebecca Sienes, the daughter of the Rev. Toribio Quimada, who founded most of the Universalist congregations here.  Rev. Sienes has devoted her life to promoting his dream of a vibrant Universalist presence in the Philippines.  We have seen the headquarters here in the city, had an interesting and tasty dinner with the rest of the Partner Church tour group, and coped as well as we could with the 90 degree weather today.  I'm not sure when I can be on line again as we travel, but I will try to report in as I can.  Being brief tonight:  I need some rest.
